Healthscope is a for-profit Australian company which operates private hospitals, medical centres and International pathology services. The company is headquartered on St Kilda Road, Melbourne. It operates medical/surgical hospitals and a number of psychiatric and rehabilitation clinics.

Healthscope is a private healthcare provider in Australia with 45 hospitals. With pathology operations across New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore.

Formed in 1985, the Healthscope Group has a long history in the private health care industry, and was initially listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in 1994.

In October 2010 the Healthscope business was acquired by a consortium of funds, advised and managed by TPG Capital and The Carlyle Group and was subsequently de-listed from the ASX. Following a period of successful growth under private ownership, the Healthscope business was re-listed on the ASX on 28 July 2014.

In July 2015 Healthscope sold its Australian Pathology division to Crescent Capital Partners.

In August 2017, Healthscope sold their Medical Centres portfolio to Singapore-based Fullerton Healthcare.

On 6 June 2019, Canadian firm Brookfield Business Partners LLP announced completion of its takeover of Healthscope. Brookfield partnered with institutional investors including the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, and the CDPQ maintains a minority stake in Healthscope.

Ownership

Healthscope was a public company whose stock was traded on the Australian Stock Exchange under the stock code HSP. The company completed an initial public offering in 1994 when it raised A$70 million by issuing 40 million shares at A$1.75 each. In 2010, Healthscope was acquired by The Carlyle Group. It was managed by TPG and The Carlyle Group and was later re-added to the ASX on 28 July 2014. From July 2014, Healthscope stock was again part of the S&P/ASX 200 Index under the stock code HSO.As at June 2019, Healthscope was removed from the official list of ASX traded companies due to the Brookfield takeover.

This company is reportedly related to the interests of the Saudi Royal Family, specifically Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia

In October 2018, Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and a critic of the crown prince, went missing after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Turkish officials reportedly believe that Khashoggi was murdered at the consulate, claiming to have specific video and audio recordings proving that Khashoggi was first tortured and then murdered, and that a medical forensics expert was part of the 15-man Saudi team seen entering and leaving the consulate at the time of the journalist’s disappearance. Saudi Arabia denied the accusations and Salman invited Turkish authorities to search the building as they “have nothing to hide”. Saudi officials said they are “working to search for him”. The Washington Post reported that the Crown Prince had earlier sought to lure Khashoggi back to Saudi Arabia and detain him.

According to Middle East Eye, seven of the fifteen men suspected of killing Khashoggi are members of Mohammed bin Salman’s personal bodyguard. John Sawers, a former head of the British MI6, stated that in his judgment of the evidence it is “very likely” that Mohammed bin Salman ordered the killing of Khashoggi

Jared Kushner was quietly in Saudi Arabia for a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Did they discuss American help for a Saudi nuclear program?

Jared Kusher abandoned protocol in Saudi Arabia, when he was unaccompanied by US Embassy officials during his official meetings in Riyadh in late February. Embassy officials told the Daily Beast.

One of the planned deals of the Trump administration in the last two years, is a plan to sell nuclear reactors to Saudi Arabia that could be used to make nuclear weapons. One of the proposed participant companies is Brookfield Business Partners.

By 2018, Brookfield’s major public subsidiaries included Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, Brookfield Renewable Partners, Brookfield Property Partners, and Brookfield Business Partners.

The Wall Street Journal reported that in summer of last year, Kushner Companies was saved by a cash infusion from Brookfield Asset Management, which signed a 99-year lease on the building at 666 Park Avenue. The company made enough on the deal to pay down its $1.1 billion debt and buy out Vornado Realty Trust, their partner on the investment.
