Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak on Netflix (Released in 22 January 2020…perfect timing – Mick Raven)
Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak on Netflix follows Glanville and his principal scientist Sarah Ives after they apply for a grant created by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and CEO of Alphabet. The real kicker from all this monetary hand-wringing? According to Ives, Distributed Bio only needs about $2 million to start a pre-clinical trial with ferrets and pigs. It would take an estimated $10 million to get to the point of human trials. She also believes that their company may be able to develop a universal vaccine as early as 2025.
Conflicts of interest and lack of accountability issues appear to be inherent in the growth of public-private partnerships. Corporate philanthropic funding of scientific research, new drug and vaccine development and operation of public health programs, including mass vaccination programs, deserves far greater public scrutiny.
The public-sector shopping list Gates has drawn up is lengthy. He wants new health clinics, with trained frontline workers, not just to deliver vaccines once they have been produced, but to act as a crucial disease monitoring and early warning system for potential outbreaks. He also wants more investment in formal disease surveillance, including a case database that is instantly accessible to relevant groups with global rules that enforce national compliance with such information sharing.
“Budgets for these efforts need to be expanded several times over. Billions more dollars are needed to complete phase three trials and secure regulatory approval.” – Bill Gates (A Coronavirus Tax? – Mick Raven)
